Gulf Coast CE Institute exists because continuing education should be taught by someone who is still doing the work, not assembled by someone who has read about it.

Dr. Joshua E. Shannon, PhD, LMHC/S

Dr. Shannon holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and a PhD in Psychology, and is licensed in Florida under Florida Statute 491. He is licensed in several states.

He has more than twenty years of clinical practice, including private practice in a small-community setting, where a clinician cannot hand a difficult case to someone else down the hall.

He has served as a clinical supervisor, overseeing the ethical and clinical development of supervisees. Much of this catalog comes from that supervision work: the questions that come up again and again, answered properly and in one place.

Written from practice

Every course starts from a question that came up in the room or in supervision, not from a content brief.

Case-based, not abstract

Ethical codes and diagnostic criteria are translated into decisions a clinician actually has to make, using vignettes.

Current sources

Diagnostic content is written against the current DSM-5-TR text and against Florida Statute 491 and Florida Administrative Code 64B4 as they stand.

Tested, then certified

Every course ends with a post-test at an eighty percent pass mark, and a certificate that carries your name, the date and the hours.

Continuing education should tell you something you did not already know by your third year of practice.

The organization

Gulf Coast CE Institute is a service of Gulf Coast Rehabilitation Services, Inc., a Florida corporation. Courses are delivered as self-paced home study to Florida-licensed Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Clinical Social Workers.
